Upasani Maharaj of Sakori, born as a high-class Brahmin (priest), was a successful Ayurvedic physician. However, his path brought him to Shirdi Sai Baba and became known as a great spiritual master himself, leaving everything behind. He was also unconventional, allowing women to be trained as priests and take monastic vows (which was not traditionally accepted in the locality).

Narayan Maharaj of Kedgaon, began as a simple Hindu renunciate and soon found himself surrounded by Maharajas (Kings) from all over the world. Babajan of Pune was born into a noble Muslim family. When she found out that her parents planned to get her married, she ran away from home becoming a "wandering saint".  She stationed herself under an old neem tree in Pune, India. She did not move from that tree, regardless of the weather. People eventually sought her out for blessings and eventually built a structure around this tree after her death.

Tajuddin Baba of Nagpur was born into a Muslim home. Due to overwhelming mystical states of consciousness he was unable to complete his commitment to a conventional life.  Not understanding his spiritual awakening, he was put into a mental institution during British rule in India. They soon discovered, he also was not ordinary, due to multiple miracles that began happening in his presence.
